Flash Mob, A Huge Success

Dozens of geocachers showed up for Saturday’s first ever “World Wide Flash Mob” at Lost River Cave and Valley. The day’s event was facilitated by the Lost River Cachers and one of the lead members of the group, Danny Bays.

“This [event] was all that I hoped for…just the right mix of friends and new cachers,” said Bays.

The premise of the event was for long-time cachers and beginners to get together and “mob” Lost River Cave in an effort to spread the word about geocaching. The cachers tried to act like traditional visitors until 10:00 am, when they rushed to the waterwheel to begin the event. Regular visitors might have been unsure about geocaching at the beginning, but they soon learned all about the sport.

After taking group pictures and trading prizes, the attendees gathered at the picnic tables for lunch, provided by Bays. The day was full of fellowship and fun among the members, as well as a way for new members to be welcomed into the group.

After a geocaching event or finding a cache, individuals are invited to visit www.geocaching.com to share their testimonies about caching.

Geocaching.com member Adventuretrekker was able to attend her first Flash Mob event. “It was good to see everyone and meet a few new cachers in the area as well as some I happened to have already known.” Members were able to reconnect with those whom they hadn’t seen in a while and meet people who are brand new to geocaching.

During the past few months, the free geocaching program at Lost River Cave & Valley has built a league of followers who come to the property throughout the year to cache.

It’s easy to become a geocacher. Bays periodically schedules Geocaching Education events, which provide information about the sport to new cachers.

Geocaching provides a more active involvement with nature and opportunities to spend quality time with friends and family while enjoying nature and getting exercise.

Feel free to geocache at Lost River Cave for free at any time. Keep an eye on the Events page of our website for more information about upcoming events. Geocaching.com member Sunwonder has been an active member of the Lost River Cachers. “I was glad to attend another great event by Danny,” she said.
