8034.6 Miles Link our Common Goals: Karst Preservation

On Monday, November 29, 2010 Dr. Chris Groves, director of the Hoffman Environmental Research Institute at Western Kentucky University, facilitated a wonderful opportunity for Lost River Cave to connect with a delegation from Libo Zhangjiang National Park and the new World Heritage Exhibition Center in China.

Wu Xiang Hua, Huang Jianwei and Xu Daling stopped by for a visit with Rho Lansden, Lost River Cave’s Executive Director, to learn how tourism is utilized to preserve and protect Lost River Cave and Valley.  The group’s whirlwind trip included a 2 day visit to Mammoth Cave National Park and later Washington, D.C.  Mammoth, Lost River and others joined to share information on tourism promotion and destination marketing that could help preserve and protect their karst regions.

Libo Zhangjiang National Park and Mammoth Cave National Park are among the karst areas identified as World Heritage Sites.
